Masai Mara: Why it is a Perfect Budget Safari Destination
There are many reasons why the Masai Mara is an excellent choice for a low-cost safari. It is just a five-hour drive from Nairobi and it’s accessible easily by public or private transport! Nairobi is a major transportation center in Africa, so flying to and from Nairobi can be more affordable than other African cities.
The park fees are not very low, but you can save money by staying at one of the many economical camps and lodges near the park. You only need to pay park fees for the days you enter the park.
It's a top safari destination in the world, where you can see the 'Big 5' animals and enjoy the same ecosystem as the Serengeti. Animals roam across the parks without boundaries. It's usually more affordable and convenient to visit the Masai Mara than Serengeti.
A Budget Masai Mara Safari Itinerary
Are you looking for a low-cost safari in the Masai Mara? Do you want to save money on your Masai Mara safari as much as possible? It's logical that the less time you spend on safari, the less money you will spend.
But, due to the location of the Mara, we suggest that the shortest amount of time you can go for is 4 days, 3 nights. A possible itinerary for your journey could look like this.
Day 1 – Depart from Nairobi and arrive at the Masai Mara in the early afternoon. Unwind at your camp.
Day 2 – Experience a full day of safari in the Masai Mara. Go back to your accommodation in the evening for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 3 – Take a morning game drive to see the park when it is most lively. You can also request for a balloon safari that happens before sunrise. In the afternoon, discover the new 8th wonder of the world on another game drive. You can also stop by a Masai village on the way back to your camp. Go back to your accommodation in the evening for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 4 – Do a morning game drive and transfer back to Nairobi.
Your final itinerary might change depending on how you get to and from the Mara. We can modify your itinerary as per your preferences.
How to Do Masai Mara Safari on a Budget
We provide transport to and from the Masai Mara, unlike others. The cheapest way to travel to the Masai Mara, besides getting a ride or driving your car, is to use a public bus. We can arrange the journey to your camp or lodge and pick you up from the town or a close location along the road. If you have a 4×4, you can drive yourself on safari. But for the best experience, hiring a local Maasai guide is always recommended. Because the park is hard to navigate without a guide. Plus, we are much better at tracking down the animals than you are.
Game viewing is excellent all year round in Masai Mara. Observe the elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, and giraffe graze warily while the big cats stalk hungrily in the grass. Masai Mara safaris are famous for excellent sightings of lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Witness the exciting crossing of the Mara River, a life-and-death drama that happens between the wildebeest and the hungry crocodiles.
The Masai Mara is a fantastic place to go on safari!! Most of our Masai Mara safaris start at sunrise. It is the best time of the day to catch the animals being active before the sun gets too hot. You’ll then spend the day driving through the park, observing the animals, and having lunch in the park before going back to your accommodation for the night.
